Well, that was exciting wasn’t it?

This is where we have been moored for the last two weeks. It is a marina in Hinckley, a rather nice town west of Leicester and about 10 miles from Coventry where we have been attending to some business.

Trinity Marina

Normally we moor to the bank of the canal which, as you can imagine, is pretty solid and firm. Very handy when you have a real storm as we did on Wednesday night, as at least your moorings don’t move around and that gives you some stability. In this marina, however, we are moored to a floating pontoon, and one that is only half the length of the boat at that.

So, with the 70 mph gusting wind on our bow you can imagine how much we rolled around – the pontoon just bobs about with us. With the breeze howling through the air vents sounding like a full on hurricane, it all got very exciting. There was never any real danger, but it did become rather difficult to sleep.

The vents, incidentally, have to be there and open for safety reasons. With a stove and gas cooker, it would be very easy to use up all the oxygen. They also help with minimising condensation. Just thought you’d like to know.
