On the subject of disappointments…..

I have mentioned before the folly of making plans, which inevitably fail. This one was a corker:

On our way up the Tinsley Flight of 11 locks on Sunday, we passed an Ikea store. As we wanted to replace a couple of broken wine glasses while they were still in stock, we made plans to travel to the store while we were moored in Sheffield. So, using Moovit we worked out the route to get to the Ikea store on Monday and buy the glasses, plus maybe a couple of other bits and pieces.

Setting off, we realised it was lunchtime and planned to have a cup of coffee in the Ikea restaurant – no doubt some of you have been in one. We walked to a convenient Supertram stop and caught the next tram to the nearest stop to the store, the address of which I had looked up on Google. I was a bit puzzled that it wasn’t mentioned on the Ikea website, but Google knew where it was.

We arrived at the appropriate stop, which was close to the store, and walked up a short path to the entrance. Then we discovered why it wasn’t on the Ikea website – it was still being built! Failure.

On the other hand, it was right by a shopping plaza and we took the opportunity to have what was a rare treat for us: lunch at Pizza Hut. So, we got our coffee – eventually. We also took the chance to do some other things we needed in nearby stores and found something very unusual – an Aldi store that had been abandoned.
