For the first time since Brandy Pad was launched, almost a year ago, the boat has been out of the water. A propeller strike resulted in a severely bent prop, which in turn was leading to a leaking stern tube – where the propeller shaft goes out through the hull. It also meant a lot of vibration. So, we finally managed to arrange for a new one to be fitted. Fortunately insurance covers the bulk of the cost as a new shaft was needed as well. Many thanks to Kegworth Marine for speedy and excellent work, which theysqueezed in between other jobs. We found them by chance as we were originally heading to the South of Leicester to another boat yard, but discovered the canal is long term closed through Leicester – due to shortage of water! We still have to get back to where we started for other reasons but now have to go a long way round, rather than the direct route. At least we won’t have a problem with our prop now.
