Starry, starry night

Last night we moored up near the top of the Montgomery canal, waiting to go up through the Frankton locks today.  Sadly, no photograph, but it was a beautiful, crystal clear, 360 degree starry night.  The sort that would make my friends at Troopers Hill and their Stargazing Friends jealous.

This morning was not to be outdone, with this beautiful view from the galley (click on any of these pictures for a larger version):

And this was the view as we were climbing the Frankton locks, which raise the canal over 30 feet:

In fact, the whole day today has been absolutely gorgeous. So gorgeous that we were finally able to get around to cleaning the outside of the boat – well half of it anyway.  We will have to turn it round tomorrow to do the other half – if the weather holds.

Earlier yesterday we were at the bottom end of the Montgomery canal, where they are currently working on extending it.  It was interesting to see the various challenges they face in doing so, as well as the way they are constructing the restored sections.  Along they way we came across a sign you don’t see every day:
