As you will have seen from our last blog, we are currently on the Lancaster Canal. This canal is rather cut off from the rest of the system, which is why we had to make the tidal trip from Tarleton a few days ago. Please click on the images if you wish to see a bigger version. They are worth it!
We moored up in Carnforth last night, a few miles north of Lancaster itself. It was a beautiful, clear night and the local pub (the Canal Turn) was busy with live music.
Today, we travelled on up the canal to the very top at Tewitfield. Originally the canal extended all the way to Kendal, but the route between the current end and Kendal fell into disuse some while ago. There are proposals to restore the connection, but with motorway bridges, amongst other obstacles, in the way, it will take a considerable investment to do so.
Having turned at the top, we began our return journey. On the way, the sun was out, the sky was blue with fluffy white clouds, and I spotted this rather gorgeous scene. We really enjoy the scenery we pass, and this one was particularly lovely.
Did they sing …..give me the moonlight.??what a serene locality when you were in that lovely spot…hope you have plenty more to come. Xxx
