We always keep an eye on the forecast and have been monitoring the current weather for a week or so. Because we were expecting snow and ice, we moved into Gayton Marina on Friday. Ice can be a real hazard on locks, as you can imagine – they are dangerous enough in the best of conditions. If we are going to be frozen in, then we may as well be somewhere secure with electricity available. Not that it would be a problem otherwise, but it saves having to run the generator for several hours a day.
However, while snow seems to have been around us to the North, East and South, we really haven’t seen it – until today.

Despite the really cold temperatures (-4 last night and -6 expected tonight), we also haven’t seen much ice! Other marinas freeze over really quickly but no this one. Maybe it is because it is an old gravel pit and is very deep.
