Today is Sunday, 23rd April and it is the first day of this year that we have seen new ducklings (as ever, click on the images for bigger versions):
We previously saw a pair of two, but I wasn’t quick enough with my camera, however I managed to capture this one. Just before we moored up this evening, we came across this brood of nine:
This family included this rather interesting odd one out:
We were moored up at a place called Bollington Aqueduct for the last few days and there was a very patient Canada Goose, like this one, sitting on its nest on the other side of the canal the whole time we were there:
We were moored there as we wanted to have a look around and investigate the history of the area, with the huge remains of mills (cotton in Bollington, Silk in Macclesfield) and among other things, we discovered this wonderful cafe:
It had one of the best, and most original, vegetarian menus we have seen for a long, long time. So if you are ever in the area, it is well worth a visit – and the bacon butties are pretty good too!
It seems to us that Spring has been arriving early this year as the weather has been so mild (apart from a rather cold wind) and we have heard (and seen) many summer visitors. Our total observed bird list is now nearly up to 60, and we will post a list eventually. However, perhaps the most unusual is a Barnacle Goose, although neither of us had seen a Little Grebe before either.
